Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is offering its South Central Texas Landowners Program twice this fall, in Grimes County on Friday, Oct. 30, and in Lee County on Friday, Nov. 20. The one-day sessions are aimed at rural landowners, whether they are new to managing property or have done it for years.

Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m., and the program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. AgriLife will give out the exact meeting sites when people register.

Each session costs $65 per person. Payment is accepted only as exact cash or a check made out to the Grimes County Ag Fund. AgriLife prefers that people sign up in advance through its Grimes County office, at 936-873-3907 or Grimes-TX@ag.tamu.edu. Registrants receive a binder of publications and other resources.

Topics and speakers

  • Property tax valuations, and rangeland and grazing basics, with Matt March, Waller County's AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources
  • Managing ponds and fish, with Tyson Keese, an AgriLife pond management specialist based at the Overton research and extension center
  • Feral hogs and general wildlife management, with Marcus Blum, Ph.D., an AgriLife wildlife specialist and assistant professor in Texas A&M's Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management in College Station
  • Cow-calf herd management, with Matt Pfeifer, Grimes County's AgriLife agent for agriculture and natural resources

The Oct. 30 date falls on the same day as AgriLife's separate Burleson County landowner program in Caldwell. Questions about the South Central Texas program go to Kristen Kopecky at kristen.kopecky@ag.tamu.edu or 936-873-3907.
