Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has scheduled two workshops aimed at farmers, ranchers and other rural property owners in the Brazos Valley in early December, one in Caldwell and one in Bryan.

Monday, Dec. 7: landowner law in Caldwell

"Owning Your Piece of Texas: Key Laws Texas Landowners Need to Know" is set for 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Burleson County Expo Center, 905 U.S. Highway 36, in Caldwell. AgriLife said the session gives an overview of major legal questions Texas landowners face, among them liability, fence law, water law and eminent domain.

Speakers listed by AgriLife include Tiffany Lashmet, an AgriLife Extension agricultural law specialist based in Canyon, along with attorneys Jim Bradbury, Luke Ellis and Cassie Gresham and Mark Hefner of Plateau Land and Wildlife Management. Licensed real estate agents can earn seven continuing education credits from the Texas Real Estate Commission.

Tuesday, Dec. 8: grazing and hunting leases in Bryan

The Ranchers Leasing Workshop is set for 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Brazos County AgriLife Extension office, 4153 County Park Court, in Bryan. It covers the legal and economic sides of grazing and hunting leases plus landowner liability. AgriLife listed Greg Kaase, a senior program specialist in agricultural economics, and project manager Kara Matheney among the presenters.

Real estate agents can earn four TREC continuing education credits.

Cost and registration

The Caldwell workshop is $75 and the Bryan workshop is $50, or $100 for both. The fee includes lunch, printed handbooks and copies of the slide presentations. Registration is required online at tx.ag/RuralLandownerWorkshops2026.

AgTrust Farm Credit and Capital Farm Credit are sponsoring the workshops. Questions go to Lashmet at AgriLife Extension.
