Bryan ISD Superintendent Ginger Carrabine will represent Texas in the race for the 2027 National Superintendent of the Year after the Texas Association of School Administrators picked her as the state's nominee, KBTX reported Thursday.

The selection follows her October win as 2026 Texas Superintendent of the Year, an honor the Texas Association of School Boards announced Oct. 10 after she was first chosen as the Region 6 honoree.

From here, a national panel of judges will review the nominees from each state and narrow the field to four finalists. AASA, The School Superintendents Association, will announce the winner at its National Conference on Education, scheduled for Feb. 25-27, 2027, in Atlanta.

Carrabine has worked in Bryan ISD for nine years and has led it as superintendent since 2022, after serving as deputy superintendent and chief of staff. Before Bryan, she held teaching and administrative jobs in Fort Bend ISD. The district enrolls about 16,000 students and employs about 3,000 people, according to KBTX.

KBTX credited her with helping win community support for three bond packages worth a combined $584 million. The largest, a $397 million bond voters approved in 2025, is the biggest in district history. Two earlier bonds totaling $187 million paid for Sadberry Intermediate School, expansions at Rudder High School and facility upgrades across the district.

At the state level, Carrabine sits on TASA's legislative committee, the education commissioner's cabinet of superintendents, the University Interscholastic League's Legislative Council and the Region 6 executive committee, KBTX reported.
