Rantanen has four points as Stars shut out Sabres 4-0

Mikko Rantanen had a goal and three assists and Jake Oettinger made 26 saves as Dallas scored three times in the second period at Buffalo.

Robertson strikes first

The Dallas Stars took the lead at 9:03 of the first period on Thursday, Oct. 8, at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, where 19,070 fans watched. Jason Robertson scored on a snap shot, with assists from Mikko Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston, and Dallas carried a 1-0 lead into the second period.

Three goals in the second

Dallas pulled away in the middle period. Sam Steel scored on a snap shot at 9:36, set up by Thomas Harley and Rantanen. Rantanen then scored on a backhand at 13:57, assisted by Nils Lundkvist and Johnston.

Roope Hintz made it 4-0 at 15:34 with a power-play snap shot, with Johnston and Rantanen assisting. Neither team scored in the third period.

Rantanen and Oettinger lead the way

Rantanen finished with one goal and three assists for four points. Johnston had three assists. Jake Oettinger stopped all 26 shots he faced for the shutout, while Buffalo's Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 14 saves on 18 shots.

Both teams are 2-2-0 with four points after the game.
