Stars Fall to Penguins 2-1 as Rakell Scores in Shootout

The Dallas Stars tied the game in the third period, but Rickard Rakell scored in the shootout to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-1 victory Saturday.

Dallas Comes Back in the Third

The Dallas Stars rallied to tie the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third period, but Rickard Rakell scored in the shootout as Pittsburgh won 2-1 Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026. The Penguins were the home team at PPG Paints Arena, where attendance was 18,192.

The result left Dallas with a 2-2-1 record and five points. Pittsburgh moved to 3-2-1 with seven points.

Third-Period Exchange

Neither team scored in the first or second period. Pittsburgh opened the scoring in the third when Connor Dewar recorded his first goal, a backhand, with an assist from Blake Lizotte.

Dallas answered later in the period. Tyler Seguin scored his first goal on a tip-in, assisted by Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen, making the score 1-1.

The period-by-period scoring lines were Dallas 0-0-1-0-0 and Pittsburgh 0-0-1-0-1, with the final column representing the shootout result.

Shootout Decides It

Ben Kindel scored for Pittsburgh in the shootout, followed by Sidney Crosby. Seguin scored for Dallas, and Wyatt Johnston also scored for the Stars. Rakell then scored for Pittsburgh, completing the shootout scoring listed for the game.

Dewar finished with one goal and one point for Pittsburgh, while Lizotte had one assist. Seguin had one goal and one point for Dallas, and Heiskanen had one assist. Robertson also assisted on Seguin’s goal.

Records After the Game

The 2-1 result gave Pittsburgh its third win of the record shown after the game. Dallas’ record stood at 2-2-1. The Penguins scored once in the third period and once in the shootout; the Stars scored once in the third period and once in the shootout.
