Jerry R. Strawser, an accounting professor at the Mays Business School, has been selected to serve as the interim provost and executive vice president at Texas A&M University. The new role begins on September 1, following the departure of current Provost Alan Sams.

University President Susan Ballabina announced the transition on Thursday. Sams is stepping down from his administrative duties to return to a faculty position within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Strawser, who holds the KPMG Chair in the James Benjamin Department of Accounting, has previously served in an interim capacity for the provost role.

The appointment is currently pending final approval from the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents. The board is scheduled to hold a special meeting on August 27 to consider the personnel change. Until a permanent leader is selected, Strawser will oversee academic operations while the university conducts a national search for a full-time provost.

Texas A&M University is a major employer in College Station.
