College Station has named Oct. 12 through 14 Texas Transportation Short Course Days, marking the conference's 100th anniversary.

Mayor Pro Tem William Wright read the proclamation at the City Council's Oct. 8 meeting. It honors a century of the event and the partnership between the Texas Department of Transportation and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, according to the city's account of the meeting.

The city noted that the Short Course has been held in College Station for nearly all of its 100 years. Over that time, the city said, the gathering of transportation professionals has influenced Texas infrastructure from early road design through today's intelligent transit systems.

Greg Winfree of the transportation institute and Jenni Sellers of TxDOT joined Wright for the presentation. The proclamation recognizes the professionals who take part and invites residents to help celebrate the milestone.
