Chad Van Brunt, a lawyer based in College Station, is scheduled to face trial on September 14 at the Brazos County Courthouse. The legal proceedings concern a sexual assault charge stemming from an incident that occurred in December 2023. Van Brunt was taken into custody in April of the previous year in connection with the case.
During a recent court appearance, representatives for both the prosecution and the defense indicated that preparations for the trial are proceeding as expected. The attorneys for both sides agreed that the trial is anticipated to last between three and four days. One additional hearing is currently scheduled for September 8, prior to the start of the main trial.
Van Brunt has been released on bond since February 2025. His legal counsel, Lisa Greenburg, has previously stated that her client maintains confidence in the judicial process and the community. Greenburg said, “Chad has faith in the court system, the people of Brazos County, and that the true nature of this false allegation will come to light.”
According to the state bar website, Van Brunt remains eligible to practice law in Texas. The outcome of the trial and any further legal consequences for the attorney are not yet known.
