Texas A&M University will hold its Silver Taps ceremony at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Academic Plaza to honor six recently deceased students.

The students are Branson McNeel Bean, a sophomore Agricultural Leadership and Development major from Cypress; Victoria Claire Burkett, a master’s Human Resource Management student from Friendswood; Nicholas Stephen Heinrich-Barna, a Ph.D. Computer Engineering student from Lucas; Alan Delynn Moore, a Ph.D. Engineering student from Houston; Mastura Safayet, a Ph.D.

Geography student from Ithaca, New York; and Graham Andrew Wetherell, a freshman Construction Science major from Houston.

The campus will be darkened at 10:20 p.m. Students, family and friends will gather silently in the plaza in front of the Academic Building. At 10:30 p.m., an honor guard from the Ross Volunteer Company will march to the plaza and fire three rifle volleys.

People may send condolences to the families by emailing silvertaps@tamutraditions.net or by placing a letter in one of four memorial boxes. The boxes are in Academic Plaza, Memorial Student Center 12th Man Hall, the Quad and in front of the West Campus Dining Facility.

People living on campus are asked to cover windows, keep noise to a minimum and walk to and from the ceremony without talking. Silver Taps is held on the first Tuesday of each month from September through April, if necessary, following a student’s death.
