Dallas Cowboys running back Malik Davis has been fined $6,735 due to a penalty for unnecessary roughness. This incident took place during a preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, specifically during the first quarter at the 12:07 mark when Davis made a five-yard gain.
Although he did not receive a penalty during the game, the NFL later imposed the fine as part of its routine process for infractions in preseason games.
Davis is the only player from the Cowboys to receive a fine during the preseason. The highest fine during this period was $12,537, which was issued to Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Tytus Howard for a similar violation.
Currently, Davis is in his second year of a two-year contract worth $2.1 million, which includes a base salary of $1.1 million for 2026. The fine amounts to approximately 0.6% of his salary. All fines collected by the NFL are directed to the Professional Athletes Foundation, which aids athletes in need and supports health and safety initiatives at various levels of football.
Throughout the offseason, Davis competed for the backup running back position against Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah. Despite expectations that Blue would secure a spot, he was released along with Mafah, allowing Davis to take the backup role behind starting running back Javonte Williams.
