Quarterback Joe Milton III has been re-signed to the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad after being released to make room for running back Emari Demercado. Milton went unclaimed during the waiver process and chose to return to the Cowboys, even with interest from other teams for their practice squads.
Dak Prescott, the team's leading quarterback, shared his enthusiasm about Milton's return, noting the positive influence he has on the team and the quarterback group. Prescott acknowledged Milton's development over the offseason and emphasized the importance of supporting him as he deals with the disappointment of losing the QB2 role he held throughout the 2025 season.
"I thought he would’ve been picked up in the waivers. We got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better," Prescott stated, recognizing Milton's likely frustration but encouraging him to channel it into further improvement.
Milton was initially drafted in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024 before being traded to the Cowboys prior to the 2025 season. His preseason performance demonstrated notable progress, as he completed 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
This marked a clear advancement in consistency compared to his last season, where he participated in four games, achieving a 62.5% completion rate and throwing one touchdown along with two interceptions.
