The Houston Texans have confirmed that wide receiver Tank Dell will be sidelined for a minimum of four games as he recovers from a serious knee injury. General manager Nick Caserio stated that while Dell is making progress, the team is not rushing his return.
Dell is currently on Reserve/Injured with a designation to return after suffering a dislocated kneecap along with multiple ligament tears in December 2024.
Caserio mentioned that Dell's recovery is advancing, but he still needs to regain his top-end speed, which is essential for his playing style. Improvements in his quickness and route-running have been noted, yet the Texans are focused on ensuring he can perform at the high speeds necessary for success in the NFL. Dell's injury caused him to miss the entire 2025 season, requiring extensive rehabilitation.
Before the injury, Dell had become a significant asset for quarterback C.J. Stroud, achieving 98 receptions for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns across his first two seasons. His ability to stretch the field and create opportunities for other receivers is crucial for the Texans.
In Dell's absence, players like Boutte and Noel will have the chance to step up and develop their chemistry with Stroud, while the team evaluates its offensive needs without Dell. Caserio emphasized that the priority remains on Dell's full recovery rather than a specific return date.
