Southern Methodist University’s head volleyball coach, Sam Erger, received a two-game suspension for an impermissible communication, as stated by a university spokesperson. This self-imposed suspension by SMU Athletics occurred on August 29 and 30.
During Erger's absence, the Mustangs secured wins against Colorado State and UC Davis. Notably, sophomore outside hitter Suli Davis achieved her first double-double with 22 kills and 14 digs in the match against Colorado State. Erger returned to coach the team on September 2, where they faced TCU, resulting in a loss after five sets.
In that match, Davis again led with 15 kills, while freshman Bojana Ambulija made a strong debut with 13 kills.
Since taking over the program in February 2022, Erger has guided the Mustangs to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet Sixteen finish in 2025. Last season, the team recorded 27 wins, matching the program's record for most wins in a season. The Mustangs are preparing for their next match against the University of San Diego, which will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
