As the Houston Texans prepare for their 2026 regular season, they have revealed their four team captains ahead of the game against the Buffalo Bills. This year's selection includes quarterback C.J. Stroud, defensive end Will Anderson, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, and defensive back Jalen Pitre, marking Pitre's first time in this leadership role.
The change in captaincy comes after the release of veteran running back Dare Ogunbowale, who held a captain position last season and is currently a free agent. Wide receiver Nico Collins, who was also a captain last year, is the only member of the previous leadership group not returning.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans highlighted the significance of strong leadership within the team, a quality he has emphasized since taking over in 2023. The Texans have added players recognized for their leadership abilities, including safety Reed Blankenship, previously with the Philadelphia Eagles, along with several draft picks who served as captains in their college teams.
Each of the newly appointed captains has a minimum of three years with the Texans, with Pitre entering his fifth season, showcasing their influence and presence in the locker room as the team gets ready for the upcoming season. The captains will be introduced during their first match against the Bills, scheduled for 12 p.m. CT on Sunday, September 13th.
