The Houston Texans have officially added defensive end Chris Braswell to their practice squad. Braswell, a former second-round draft choice, was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after spending two seasons with the team.
While at Alabama, he was a five-star recruit and recorded eight sacks along with ten tackles for loss, stepping in as the Jack linebacker following Will Anderson Jr.'s departure to the NFL.
Despite his promising college career, Braswell struggled to make an impact in the NFL, managing only two and a half sacks during his time with the Buccaneers. His release came after he missed parts of the preseason and was outperformed by his teammates. In joining the Texans, he reunites with former Alabama teammates Will Anderson Jr. and Logan Hall.
Braswell is expected to train as the team's only defensive end on the practice squad, with the potential for elevation to the active roster due to the Texans' current injury concerns at the position. Adapting to Houston's 4-3 defensive scheme will require him to modify his playstyle, focusing more on edge-setting and pass rushing.
This signing is seen as a strategic effort to strengthen the team's defensive depth, with Braswell serving as a backup behind Dominique Robinson, Sebastian Harsh, and Jadeveon Clowney.
