Quarterback DJ Lagway has made the decision to transfer to Baylor after a difficult season with the University of Florida. Lagway, who was once the No. 3 ranked player in his class, entered Florida with great expectations as the successor to Graham Mertz.
After stepping in as the starter due to Mertz's injury, he led the Gators to a 5-1 record in the last six games, achieving notable wins against ranked opponents.
However, Lagway's second season was marred by injuries and significant challenges, including a surprising loss to South Florida, marking Florida's first defeat to the Bulls. His performance against LSU, where he threw five interceptions, contributed to an overall disappointing record of 4-8 for the Gators, resulting in the dismissal of head coach Billy Napier.
In search of a fresh start, Lagway entered the Transfer Portal and is now set to play for Baylor under head coach Dave Aranda. Tim Tebow, a former Florida quarterback, expressed that Lagway needed a new environment to succeed, believing that the pressure at Florida was overwhelming.
Lagway's debut as a Bear will be against Auburn, a critical matchup for both him and Coach Aranda as they aim to improve from last season's performance. This game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, starting at 3:30 PM (ET) on ABC.
