Cade Cavalli delivered a dominant performance on the mound, striking out 11 batters while allowing only three hits and one walk over six innings. The Nationals starter earned the win, improving his record to 11-5, as he kept the Texas Rangers offense in check throughout the first half of the contest.
His command and velocity were evident, as he retired 18 of the first 21 batters he faced, setting the tone for a shutout effort.
Offense Finds Its Rhythm
The Washington Nationals offense began to heat up in the third inning when Tena launched a 415-foot home run to center field, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. The scoring continued in the fourth when Ruiz singled to right field, allowing Chaparro to score and extend the advantage to 2-0.
In the sixth inning, Vivas grounded out to the pitcher, but the play was enough to drive in Chaparro, moving Ruiz to third base and pushing the Nationals lead to 3-0. The game was effectively decided in the seventh inning, when Chaparro hit a 397-foot home run to left field.
The blast cleared the fence and scored Ortiz and Tena, resulting in three runs on the play and making the final margin 6-0.
Bullpen Secures the Win
Following Cavalli’s six-inning start, the Nationals bullpen maintained its composure to secure the shutout. Will Dion pitched one inning without allowing a hit or an earned run, striking out one batter. Max Kranick followed with one inning of work, allowing one hit but no runs.
Jake Bird closed the game with one inning of relief, retiring one batter on a strikeout while allowing no hits or earned runs. Their collective effort ensured that the Rangers could not score a single run in the bottom of any inning.
Rangers Fall Short
For the Texas Rangers, Kumar Rocker took the loss, dropping his record to 4-10. He pitched five innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out three batters. The Rangers bullpen struggled to contain the Nationals' surge.
Cole Winn pitched one inning, allowing two hits and one earned run. Peyton Gray followed, pitching one inning where he allowed one hit, three earned runs, and two walks. Jordan Montgomery finished the game by pitching two innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs while striking out two batters.
The final score was 6-0 in favor of the Washington Nationals, who improved to 61-67, while the Texas Rangers fell to 62-65.
