Donations are already being accepted for Brazos Valley Gives, the annual online fundraiser run by the Community Foundation of the Brazos Valley, ahead of its main giving day on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The early giving period continues through Monday, Oct. 19, KBTX reported. Giving Day itself lasts 18 hours, from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., according to the station.

More than 190 nonprofits are taking part this year, and organizers are aiming to raise $1 million for them, KBTX reported. Participating groups come from across the foundation's seven-county Brazos Valley region, which includes Brazos County. Donors can browse the full list of participants and choose a cause at brazosvalleygives.org. Each gift goes to the charity or charities the donor selects, according to the station.

Eighth year for the campaign

This is the eighth year the foundation has organized the event, according to KBTX. The Brazos Valley Gives website says nonprofits taking part brought in a combined total above $7.5 million during the first seven years.

Registration for nonprofits that wanted to join this year's campaign closed Oct. 1, the station reported. The event was open to 501(c)(3) organizations serving the region.

One participant's goal

Among the participants is Acara Hospice Foundation, which supports hospice patients and their families. KBTX reported that the group offers free hospice education, helps with one-time needs and grants patient wishes. Its biggest current effort is raising money for a Community Hospice House, where patients could receive end-of-life care no matter which hospice provider serves them, according to the station.
