Brazos County voters are casting early ballots well ahead of the pace they set in the last midterm election, according to county voter rosters analyzed by KBTX.

Through Thursday, Oct. 22, the fourth day of early voting, 19,981 people had voted in person or by mail. At the same point in the 2022 midterm, the count stood at 12,431, so this year's total is about 60% higher, the station's figures show.

Turnout is still behind the 2024 presidential election, when 23,292 ballots had been cast by the same day. That puts this year about 14% below the 2024 pace.

The county has 147,051 registered voters this year, according to the Brazos County Elections Administration, up from 132,601 in 2024 and 126,229 in 2022. The ballots cast so far amount to roughly 13.6% of registered voters.

In-person turnout has been steady, with between about 4,500 and 4,950 voters each weekday, and 1,350 mail ballots had come in by Thursday.

Statewide, nearly 2.7 million of Texas's roughly 19 million registered voters had cast ballots, KBTX reported, citing unofficial numbers from the Texas secretary of state's office.
