Cyclists can ride between College Station and Bryan together on Saturday, Oct. 10, during Biketober, a free 8.6-mile group ride that starts and ends at College Station City Hall, 1101 Texas Ave.

Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m., with riders departing at 9:30 a.m., according to the city's event page. The route heads to Bryan Midtown Park's farmers market for a stop of about 30 minutes before getting back to City Hall at about 11 a.m. Midtown Park will have a bike valet, and riders will get a drawstring bag for market purchases, KBTX reported.

The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform at the park.

Registration and rules

The ride is free, but participants must register at cstx.gov/Biketober and sign a participation waiver. Anyone 16 or younger must ride with an adult.

Activities for people not riding

Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., the south parking lot at City Hall will host German-themed food trucks, live music, lawn games, community booths and a bike safety course for children. The city also lists storytelling and an exposition of local arts and culture groups while riders are out on the route.

The sister city connection

The event marks the relationship between Bryan-College Station and its sister city, Greifswald, Germany, a city the organizers cite for its cycling culture. Greifswald Deputy Mayor Tobias Schreiber will be one of the lead riders, KBTX reported.

Biketober is hosted by the Bryan-College Station Sister Cities International Association with both cities and is supported by Goethe-Institut USA, according to the city. "We definitely invite the community to come out," Charles Martinez, who is with the Sister Cities group, told KBTX.
