Mike Elko owns Texas A&M's offensive stall after 27-6 loss at Missouri

The Aggies managed 216 total yards and no touchdowns in a road loss that dropped them to 1-3 in the SEC. Elko said the offense could not establish any facet of the game; Marcel Reed went 19-of-39 for 187 yards.

Texas A&M's offense left Faurot Field without a touchdown Saturday, and Mike Elko put the result on his desk before anyone else's.

No. 14 Missouri beat the Aggies 27-6, dropping A&M to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the SEC, the school's athletics site reported. Texas A&M finished with 216 yards of total offense. Marcel Reed completed 19 of 39 passes for 187 yards.

All six Aggie points came from David Olano, who hit from 53 and 27 yards and is 9-for-9 on field goals this season, the first Aggie to open a year that clean since Todd Pegram made his first 12 in 2004.

"Just another extremely disappointing road performance ... completely unable to get anything going on offense," Elko said in his postgame comments posted by Texas A&M. "Couldn't consistently establish any facet of the game, and that made it really hard. Thought the defense hung in there for a while and played solid football for a while.

But ultimately, I think we wore down. And that's the story of the game. So we've got to go back to the drawing board and figure this out because it's not nearly good enough.

That's me. Again, I own every part of this."

How the afternoon closed

Missouri's Jamal Roberts scored on a 2-yard run late in the third and a 54-yard run in the fourth, the Aggies' recap said. Cayden Lee's 32-yard touchdown catch opened the Tigers' scoring in the second quarter after Olano's early 53-yarder had put A&M up 3-0. Field goals of 50 and 51 yards for Missouri stretched the gap before the late rushing scores sealed it.

Houston Thomas led A&M with four catches for a season-high 30 yards. TK Norman had a career-high 55 yards on three receptions. Jordan Shaw paced the defense with eight tackles and a career-high 1.5 tackles for loss.

Daymion Sanford intercepted Missouri on the opening drive - A&M's second consecutive game with a pick on an opponent's first series. Brandon Davis-Swain blocked a Missouri field-goal try at the end of the first half to keep the deficit at one score into the break.

Reed, speaking after the loss, said the staff and players have to keep correcting issues on tape while preparing for the next opponent and cannot give up on the season because of three losses, per the athletics site. Shaw said the defense tried to take the game one play at a time and now has to return to the drawing board without pointing fingers.

Citadel week and the SEC ledger

Texas A&M returns to Kyle Field on Saturday, Oct. 17, against The Citadel at noon, streamable on SEC Network+. A non-conference date offers a chance to reset after consecutive road struggles, but the SEC mark at 1-3 already frames the second half of the season.

Olano's perfect start and Tyler White's 52.7-yard punting average are bright lines in a box score that otherwise showed an offense stuck between the hashes. Elko's public ownership of the stall sets the standard for the week of work ahead: establish a run or pass identity long enough that the defense is not asked to carry four quarters on the road again.
