The hospitals long known locally as St. Joseph Health now carry the name of their national parent, CommonSpirit Health. The new names took effect in October, and the system has been marking it with facility blessings at each of its campuses, according to KBTX and FOX 44.
Under the new names listed in the system's announcement, the College Station hospital is CommonSpirit - St. Joseph Hospital - College Station, and the Bryan hospital is CommonSpirit - St. Joseph Hospital - Bryan. The other three hospitals follow the same pattern, with Burleson County, Grimes County and Madison County at the end.
St. Joseph Health has belonged to CommonSpirit since 2019, according to the announcement. The system said that putting the CommonSpirit name on its hospitals and care sites is meant to show their tie to the national organization while keeping the St. Joseph name the community knows. The rebrand covers 2,413 employees at five hospitals and more than 25 care sites, the announcement said.
Blessings this week
Blessings have already been held at the College Station, Bryan and Burleson County hospitals, and the rest of the region's hospitals are scheduled to hold theirs through the end of this week, FOX 44 reported.
"Launching the CommonSpirit brand is a significant milestone that unites our local care teams with a national network of excellence," Monte Bostwick, the system's market president, said in the announcement. He said the change builds on the hospital's 90 years in the community.
