Three Texas A&M cadets are the newest recipients of the Corps of Cadets' Cadet Life Saving Award, an honor the Corps says it seldom presents, for stepping in during two separate emergencies.

A stranger down on Texas Avenue

The first came on April 25, following the Corps' spring 2026 Final Review. Sophomore cadets David Berry (Company P-2) and Camila Ospina (Company K-1) came upon a man lying on the ground close to Texas Avenue, according to the announcement.

Ospina turned the unresponsive man onto his side in the recovery position as he began to convulse. Berry called for emergency help and helped her keep the man on his side. Both stayed with him until paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital.

Berry credited the bond formed during the cadets' first year in the Corps. "The Corps taught me to wholeheartedly trust my buddy," he said.

A moped rider struck by a vehicle

In a separate incident, Benjamin Claypole, a senior in Company E-1, helped a woman who had been hit by a vehicle while on a moped. He pressed his shirt against her wound to slow the bleeding and kept helping until medical crews took over.

Claypole said his training and his faith guided him. "I really believe the Lord put me in the right place at the right time for a reason," he said, adding that he focused only on the injured woman and took the situation one step at a time.

Recognition from Corps leadership

Corps Commander Mackenzie Cronin, who leads the cadet corps for 2026-2027, said the three showed that leadership means acting right away when someone needs help. Cronin also called the award one of the highest honors the Corps can give and said it is unusual for three cadets to earn it at once.

The announcement did not name the people the cadets helped or describe their condition afterward.
