The A&M Consolidated High School band is headed to San Antonio for the UIL 5A State Marching Band Championships after winning the Area D contest Saturday, Oct. 24, at The Pfield in Pflugerville.

Official UIL results show the band ranked second of 24 bands in the morning preliminary round, behind Glenn High School, then took first place in the evening finals. Only the top five finalists advanced to state: A&M Consolidated, Glenn, Hendrickson, Weiss and McCallum. KBTX first reported the band's state berth Monday morning.

College Station High School's band also made the 10-band area finals, placing ninth in prelims and sixth in finals, one spot short of a state invitation. Both College Station ISD bands had earned superior ratings at the UIL Region 8 contest Oct. 17, the district said at the time.

When to watch

The 5A state preliminaries fill the Alamodome on Monday, Nov. 2. Under the performance schedule UIL posted Sunday, A&M Consolidated takes the field at 1:25 p.m. and performs at 1:30 p.m., in the early-afternoon block that follows Friendswood and precedes Horizon High School. Thirty-nine bands are on the day's schedule, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to the announcement of finalists at 9 p.m.

Finalists return Tuesday, Nov. 3, for a final round that opens at 2 p.m., with the full band retreat and awards set for 5:45 p.m. UIL lists tickets through the Alamodome box office or Ticketmaster, and the stadium's clear bag policy applies.

The state contest rotates by classification. The 1A, 3A and 5A bands compete Nov. 2-4 this year, and the 2A, 4A and 6A championships follow Nov. 9-11, also at the Alamodome.
