Businesses, nonprofits, churches, school groups and anyone else hoping to put a float in this year's College Station Christmas Parade have until Friday, Nov. 6, to sign up.

Registration has been open since Sept. 10 through the city's Parks and Recreation Department, and there is no charge to take part. The city has set no theme, so entries can be decorated floats, trailers, pickup trucks or groups on foot, KBTX reported in a city-sponsored segment that aired Tuesday. Last year's parade drew more than 70 entries, according to that report.

Every registered group must send someone to a mandatory participant meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16. The city says lineup information, rules and instructions will go out to registered entries.

The route

The parade starts at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Post Oak Mall. According to the city, it heads west on Holleman Drive, turns south onto Dartmouth Street, crosses Southwest Parkway, turns east on Krenek Tap Road and finishes at Beachy Central Park.

The rest of the day

The Jingle Bell Fun Run goes off at 3:30 p.m. on a 1.5-mile course that follows part of the parade path and ends at the park. Check-in opens at 3 p.m. at 810 Holleman Drive East.

Entry is $15 through Nov. 15, which includes a shirt and jingle bells; late registration from Nov. 16 to Nov. 30 costs $20 and shirts are offered only while they last. Children 3 and younger run free.

After the parade, the Christmas in the Park event runs from 6 to 10 p.m., starting when the mayor switches on the park's lights. Admission is free. The city lists hayrides, cookies, hot cocoa, live entertainment and photos with Santa; wristbands for activities require a signed waiver.

Recreation Drive will be closed from 7 a.m. to midnight that day, and cars will not be allowed through the park. Shuttles will run from 4 p.m. to midnight between the Post Oak Mall parking lot and the park, and handicap parking will be at the Beachy Central Park softball complex off State Highway 6.

The nightly Lights On display, with more than a million lights, opens Nov. 26 and runs 6 to 11 p.m. through Jan. 1.

Questions about the parade go to parade@cstx.gov, according to the city.
