Texas A&M gave a crowd of 5,917 at Reed Arena another conference victory Friday, sweeping Alabama 25–18, 25–22, 25–19 for its fifth consecutive win.

The attendance was the sixth-highest in program history, according to Texas A&M Athletics. The No. 14 Aggies improved to 9–5 overall and 2–0 in the SEC; Alabama fell to 8–4 and 0–3.

The straight-set score concealed a demanding night at the net. Each team finished with 12 blocks, and Alabama held A&M to .167 hitting, the Aggies’ third-lowest percentage of the season, the Crimson Tide’s match report said.

A&M nevertheless produced 42 kills to Alabama’s 28 and six aces to the Tide’s two. After Alabama edged ahead 15–14 in the first set, the Aggies closed it with a 10–4 run. A late rally secured the second set before A&M finished the sweep.

Analysis

College Station’s large turnout saw the Aggies win under different conditions from a free-flowing offensive performance. Alabama disrupted enough attacks to make every set competitive, but A&M still found more scoring opportunities. The kill and service-ace advantages help explain why an even blocking contest ended in three sets.
