Chicago scored in four of the first five innings to build a 5–0 lead. Colson Montgomery hit a solo home run, and Sam Antonacci drove in two runs, according to ESPN’s game report and box score.
Jordan Hicks earned the win in relief. Houston starter AJ Blubaugh took the loss after walking three batters in two-thirds of an inning.
Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m. Central in Houston, with coverage on Peacock and NBCSN. The Astros need a win to extend the best-of-three series.
