The City of College Station’s Public Communications Department has received three first-place national honors for work that highlights the community’s history, residents and municipal services.
The City-County Communications & Marketing Association announced the 2026 Savvy Awards during its annual conference in Denver. The competition drew more than 1,200 entries across 37 categories from around the country.
College Station earned top honors for its pictorial history book titled "And They Called It College Station," a photo series commemorating Black History Month and a monthly digital magazine called "I Heart CS."
The history book won in the publications category for communities with populations of at least 110,000. The project uses historical photographs, archival materials and storytelling to document the people, places and events that shaped College Station. It is available at the Larry J. Ringer Library and can be purchased for $40 at the College Station Visitor Center, located at 1207 Texas Ave. S.
The Black History Month photo series earned first place in the multi-image use category for communities with populations of up to 150,000. The project featured local people and stories while commemorating a milestone in the city’s Black history.
The "I Heart CS" digital magazine received the top award in the external publications category for communities with populations of at least 100,000. The monthly publication uses photography, video, graphics and interactive content to connect residents with city programs, services and stories. Residents can subscribe to the magazine for free through the City of College Station’s website and receive each edition by email.
