Sarah Elizabeth Dean, a College Station author, has released a children’s book that introduces young readers to Texas A&M University life and traditions. “How the Aggie Got His Whoop” features more than 20 customs connected to the university.
Dean grew up in College Station and attended Texas A&M football games with her parents, who were Aggies, according to KBTX News 3. She later chose Texas A&M for college instead of joining friends at another school.
Dean said her husband, who previously served as head drum major for the Aggie Band, helped introduce her to many of the traditions included in the book. She chose traditions she wants her son to experience while growing up.
The book’s title came from an idea suggested by one of Dean’s high school friends, who knew she wrote. Dean described “whooping” as an expression of joy and excitement and said the concept gives children an accessible introduction to Texas A&M.
Copies are available at Aggieland Outfitters, The Warehouse at CC Creations and both Postal Plus locations in College Station and Bryan. The book is also sold at stores in Navasota and through online retailers, including Amazon.
