Fifty families in College Station received financial assistance for school attire during the Rotary Club of College Station’s second annual Summer Clothing for Kids event held on Saturday. The organization distributed $150 shopping credits to each child, allowing parents to purchase necessary items ahead of the upcoming academic year.
The giveaway took place at a local Target store, where dozens of families gathered to utilize the funds. Bob Brick, president of the Rotary Club of College Station, described the initiative as a long-standing tradition that members anticipate annually. He noted that the program is designed to alleviate financial burdens for households preparing for the new school term.
Brick emphasized that the club aims to support the community by helping families cover clothing costs. The event represents one of the organization’s key charitable efforts, providing direct aid to residents rather than general donations.
Damian Allen attended the event with his three children, noting that such programs help reduce the economic strain of school preparation. He explained that purchasing supplies and clothing for multiple students can be difficult, making community support valuable for families in need.
Allen also highlighted the positive impact of local generosity on the broader Bryan/College Station area. He stated that witnessing such kindness reinforces community bonds and demonstrates a commitment to supporting children’s educational futures.
