College Station experienced a significant surge in tourism this past summer, driven by a lineup of major sporting competitions that drew thousands of visitors to Aggieland.
The city reported that these events brought in a total of 190,000 people and generated $33.5 million for the local economy. The influx of visitors was fueled by several high-profile gatherings, including a soccer friendly between Argentina and Honduras at Kyle Field and a softball match featuring the AUSL at Davis Diamond.
Other key attractions included the Savannah Bananas baseball team and the USA Track and Field Lone Star Grand Prix held at E.B. Cushing Stadium. These competitions contributed to the overall economic impact recorded by city officials during the summer months.
Jeremiah Cook, the assistant director of tourism for College Station, stated that the revenue generated from these visitors is being reinvested into the community. He emphasized that the spending supports local businesses, noting that restaurants and retail stores benefit directly because the money is earned by neighbors.
With the summer season concluded, Visit College Station has shifted its attention to the upcoming football season. The tourism team is also beginning planning efforts for holiday activities scheduled for December.
