Texas men's and women's cross country teams will race Friday at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, with both squads facing opponents listed in the USTFCCCA South Central Region preseason rankings.
The men's 8K is scheduled for 7:30 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 8:15 a.m. Both races will be held at Watts Cross Country Course, which Texas will visit again for the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Oct. 16 and the NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 13.
Texas is ranked fifth among the region's men's teams and eighth in the women's rankings. Host Texas A&M is third in the men's rankings and second among women's teams. Stephen F. Austin is ranked fourth for men and sixth for women.
The field also includes TCU, ranked seventh in the men's poll and 11th in the women's poll, along with SMU, Louisiana and Lamar in their respective women's or men's rankings.
Hudson Bennett, Joaquin De La Cruz, Zain Hamdani, Colby Huntress, Kai McCullough, Griffen Saacke and Aidan Torres are scheduled to run for Texas in the men's race. The group follows a Floyd Farms Invitational performance in which Texas runners took the first seven individual places and produced a team score of 15 points. Torres, Hamdani and Bennett finished first through third, while McCullough placed fourth.
McCullough later received the SEC Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Week award.
