Tyrus Burton and Roshawn Henderson face interference charges after allegedly disregarding police activity during an assault investigation in College Station. Police report that both men entered the active crime scene separately, ignoring officer commands.
Officers were responding to a reported fight at a Welsh Avenue residence when they discovered it was an assault. At least three patrol vehicles with activated lights and five uniformed officers were present. Burton walked past the officers directly to the location where the alleged incident occurred. He began examining the ground near a hat and a pile of ammunition containing 5.7-caliber and 9mm cartridges.
When approached, Burton attempted to leave but was detained by three officers who had to stop their other duties. He stated he had previously tried to break up the fight and left his vehicle because the push-to-start system failed without the key. He claimed he returned to locate the keys, which he said were with another woman at the scene.
Police later located Burton’s car running nearby with a handgun magazine and case visible inside. Burton was charged with interference with public duties.
Around the same time, Henderson drove onto the scene and parked next to the ammunition pile. When an officer approached his vehicle, Henderson refused to exit or speak, locking the door as officers attempted to open it. Officers pulled him out through the driver’s side window and handcuffed him.
