Speaking on Tuesday, Stein expressed respect for Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and the program's recent success, including a College Football Playoff appearance.
Stein emphasized that the team must focus on executing one play at a time for four quarters, stating that there is no room for excuses following Kentucky's previous loss to Alabama.
The Aggies enter the game with significant momentum under Elko, who has compiled a 21-7 record since arriving in College Station. The program also holds the No. 1 recruiting class for 2027. At the quarterback position, Texas A&M will start Marcel Reed, who is preparing for his 24th career start.
Reed finished the previous season with 3,169 passing yards and 575 rushing yards, contributing to 31 total touchdowns.
Stein highlighted Reed’s ability to make plays when defenses break down, describing the quarterback as electric with a strong arm and good decision-making skills. The Kentucky coach noted that Reed’s experience and the talent surrounding him allow the Aggies to spread opponents out and generate big plays. Stein also pointed out that Reed is a dual-threat player who is difficult to defend.
On the defensive side, Texas A&M is ranked 17th in the country in defensive success rate. The unit has recorded six total takeaways in two games, including 11.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions returned for touchdowns. Stein praised the Aggies' pass rush and their ability to create confusion with various front packages.
