Malik Davis will not play for the Dallas Cowboys against the New York Giants after hurting his hip during Friday practice. He was removed from the field by cart, and further evaluations were planned. The report, published by sports.yahoo.com on Sept. 12, 2026, said the duration of his absence remains unknown.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, citing a source, reported the Cowboys were preparing for an extended absence and quoted the source as saying, “It’s bad.”
Davis had emerged as a possible backfield contributor after carrying 12 times for 68 yards, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt, and catching a touchdown during the preseason. Javonte Williams is expected to remain Dallas’ primary running back. In 16 starts during the 2025 season, Williams totaled 1,201 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 252 attempts.
He also caught 35 passes for 137 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Emari Demercado could take on a larger role behind Williams. Dallas claimed him off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 1. In his first three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Demercado ran for 819 yards and three touchdowns on 126 carries, while adding 50 receptions for 324 yards and a receiving touchdown.
