Devonte Tezino’s two-sack performance against Auburn will be his last action for Baylor this season. The defensive tackle is expected to miss the remainder of the schedule because of a leg injury sustained during the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M.

Coach Dave Aranda had identified Tezino as one of Baylor’s leading interior defenders following the season opener. Aranda said the team would feel the loss of the work Tezino invested in developing into that level of performer.

The absence is expected to increase the duties of Baylor’s other defensive linemen. Aranda pointed to Braylen Jackson, who has helped defend the run and may see a larger role. He described Jackson as physical and said Jackson’s work against the run gives Baylor confidence.

Baylor began the season with the defensive line considered one of its strongest units, but Tezino’s injury will challenge its depth. The Bears were already without senior safety and defensive leader Jacob Redding, who suffered a torn ACL before the season opener against Auburn.
