Nate Bennett is set to make his first college start when Baylor hosts Prairie View A&M in Week 2. The change comes after quarterback DJ Lagway was ruled out with a high-ankle sprain from the season opener against Auburn, Pete Thamel reported.
Lagway completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Baylor's 17-16 loss. He stayed in the game after suffering the ankle injury. Earlier in the week, coach Dave Aranda characterized Lagway's status as day to day. On3 reported that Lagway had been trying to play despite the injury but was considered doubtful for the matchup.
Baylor reached the end zone in the closing seconds against Auburn, then did not complete a two-point try that would have produced a victory. The defeat put Baylor at 0-1, and it was not clear whether Lagway's condition influenced the decision to attempt two points. Baylor is scheduled to host Louisiana Tech next weekend and open Big 12 play against Colorado on Sept. 26.
No further recovery timetable for Lagway was provided.
