Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway will not play against Louisiana Tech as he recovers from an ankle injury, according to a report that places his potential return in the Bears’ Sept. 26 game against Colorado.

Pete Nakos of On3 Sports reported that Lagway is progressing toward being available for the matchup with Colorado and coach Deion Sanders. The report stopped short of saying he is certain to play. ClutchPoints also reported that the timing of his comeback remains unsettled beyond the indication that he is moving toward that game.

Lagway was hurt during Baylor’s 17-16 season-opening defeat against Auburn. Sources told On3 Sports that the junior quarterback sustained a high-ankle sprain. Coach Dave Aranda had earlier characterized Lagway’s status as day-to-day.

Baylor then defeated Prairie View 44-3 without Lagway. The Bears are scheduled to play Louisiana Tech before beginning Big 12 competition against Colorado.
