Tyler Goodson is staying with the Dallas Cowboys, who added the running back to their practice squad after waiving Israel Abanikanda. The move gives Dallas additional backfield depth following an injury to Malik Davis, though the source said Goodson’s chances of playing appear limited and that he is being retained as roster insurance.

Goodson spent training camp with the Atlanta Falcons and topped the team in the preseason with 92 rushing yards. He also produced a 49-yard touchdown run. In three NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, he gained 264 yards and scored once on 54 carries. He added 19 receptions for 103 yards and another touchdown.

Falcons running back Bijan Robinson praised Goodson in an interview with Blogging The Boys’ RJ Ochoa. Robinson described him as an elite player who can make cuts from one side of the field to the other, work as a pass catcher and fill several roles in an offense. Robinson also said he wanted Goodson to stay in Atlanta.

Dallas had released 2025 draft picks Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue late in training camp. The Cowboys lost their opener to the New York Giants and will face the Washington Commanders in Week 2. Dallas ran for under 100 yards in the loss, with Javonte Williams gaining 41 yards.
