The Houston Texans will play the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday without wide receiver Nico Collins, who was ruled out with a hamstring injury after missing practice during the week. The injury is a Grade 1 strain Collins sustained in practice last week. He also missed Houston’s game against Cincinnati, leaving the Texans without their leading receiving threat for a second consecutive game.
Sports Yahoo reported the decision, citing NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Both teams enter the matchup at 0-2. Houston’s record followed a 20-6 loss to the Bengals, in which it scored six points, while Indianapolis also is seeking its first victory.
Tight end Dalton Schultz could see a larger role. He made 12 catches on 14 targets for 140 yards against Cincinnati, including eight receptions in the final quarter. Schultz leads Houston through two games with 16 receptions and 175 yards. The Texans’ other receivers are Kayshon Boutte, Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Jared Wayne.
Houston may turn to additional tight ends or its running game. David Montgomery and Woody Marks produced little against Cincinnati, and Texans running backs averaged 1.5 yards per carry. Indianapolis has surrendered 354 rushing yards at 5.4 yards per carry through two games. No further information was provided about Collins’ recovery timeline.
