Israel Abanikanda is no longer on the Dallas Cowboys’ roster, with the team adding Tyler Goodson from the Atlanta Falcons. The transaction followed Dallas rushing for 69 yards against the New York Giants in Week 1 and opened a roster spot for Goodson.
Abanikanda appeared in six NFL games, all for the New York Jets during the 2023 season. Before turning professional, the former Pitt running back carried 239 times for 1,431 yards and scored 20 touchdowns in 2022. He did not secure a regular NFL role before his release by Dallas.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said New York’s defensive front affected the running game early. He said Dallas allowed too much penetration and was physically beaten at the line of scrimmage.
