The Dallas Cowboys reportedly signed Tyler Goodson on Tuesday after backup running back Malik Davis sustained a hip injury that requires surgery and will end his season. Goodson, 25, is listed at 5 feet 9 inches and 200 pounds. The signing was reported by sports.yahoo.com, citing Houston television reporter Aaron Wilson.
Goodson spent three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, appearing in 33 games. He had 54 carries for 264 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per attempt, and played 304 special teams snaps over the previous two seasons. Dallas will also be without Davis in that role.
Emari Demercado took the Cowboys’ No. 2 running back spot against the Giants and had two carries for 7 yards. Javonte Williams led Dallas with 12 of its 18 rushing attempts, while adding five receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown.
Goodson’s arrival gives Dallas another backfield option, although the effect on Israel Abanikanda, who had been elevated from the practice squad for Week 1, was not clear.
Goodson began his NFL career with Green Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2023, but the Packers released him. Indianapolis then added him before releasing him later. He joined Atlanta’s training camp, was cut, cleared waivers and returned to the Falcons’ practice squad before Dallas signed him.
