The journey is expected to be an NFL record for an international trip without a bye the following week. Baltimore’s flight from its home city is projected at roughly 4,781 miles.
The game is set for 5:25 p.m. in Rio, where the clock is one hour ahead of Eastern Time. CBS Sports’ schedule analysis indicates the teams might leave Brazil after midnight. Dallas’ flight home is expected to take more than 10 hours, potentially putting the Cowboys back in Dallas near noon Monday.
In Week 4, Dallas is scheduled to visit the Houston Texans, while Baltimore is set to host the Tennessee Titans.
Previous teams that made similar trips received extra rest. The Rams flew 5,456 miles to London last season and then had a bye. The Rams and 49ers went more than 7,800 miles to Australia for a Week 1 game and had 10 or more days before their next contests.
The two earlier NFL games in Brazil were also in Week 1. Before this trip, Denver’s longest comparable journey without a bye was a 4,670-mile London flight in Week 6 last season. CBS Sports also cited Miami’s 2021 trip of at least 4,400 miles, followed by a loss to Jacksonville in London and a comeback from a double-digit deficit in its next game.
