Trent Brown can earn as much as $2.5 million through Houston’s revised 2026 playtime incentives, up from the previous $1.5 million maximum. Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti reported the updated terms Sept. 16 in a post on X. The deal provides five separate $500,000 bonuses, tied to playing-time levels of 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% and 70%.
Over The Cap’s Troy Chapman previously reported that the change leaves Brown’s salary-cap charge and initial cash flow unchanged. The added bonuses supplement the original agreement. Houston brought Brown back during the 2026 offseason on a one-year, $5.5 million contract.
He played in seven regular-season games and one playoff game for the team in 2025, with injuries limiting him at the start and finish of the season. Houston signed Braden Smith to a two-year, $20 million contract later, but injuries sent Smith to injured reserve, and he did not become the starter.
Brown stayed with Houston through its offseason program and opened Week 1 at right tackle. He has not started every regular-season game in any season since 2022, when he played for the New England Patriots. Brown won a Super Bowl with New England in 2018, when Texans general manager Nick Caserio was an executive there.
Pro Football Focus ranked Brown Houston’s sixth-best pass blocker and third among its offensive linemen in that category in Week 1. The 2015 seventh-round pick of San Francisco has also played for Cincinnati and Las Vegas, starting 104 of 111 career games. Further details were not provided.
