DJ Lagway’s 333-yard performance in Baylor’s season opener came with an ankle injury that continues to affect his availability. Baylor lost 17-16 to Auburn, although Lagway remained on the field and produced two touchdown passes and one interception. A wrap was later visible around the injured ankle.
Baylor coach Dave Aranda said Lagway felt good at a Sunday practice, and the quarterback was slated to participate with the team during the week. He is unlikely to play Saturday against Louisiana Tech, potentially giving Nate Bennett a second consecutive start. Bennett replaced Lagway against Prairie View A&M, completing 24 of 36 passes for 314 yards in a 44-3 win.
He threw three touchdown passes and added a rushing touchdown.
On3’s Pete Nakos said Lagway is projected to be available for Baylor’s Big 12 opener against Colorado on Sept. 26. Baylor is monitoring the injury cautiously and will play Louisiana Tech before starting conference competition. Colorado is set to meet Northwestern before heading to Baylor.
The road matchup is scheduled for 10 a.m. MT and could feature Lagway and Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis if Lagway returns. Source: si.com
