Nate Bennett is expected to start at quarterback for Baylor if DJ Lagway cannot play against Louisiana Tech in Week 3. Bennett made his first start in the Bears’ win over Prairie View A&M, completing 26 of 34 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 13 rushing yards and a touchdown, but threw two interceptions.
Lagway is listed as doubtful after an ankle sprain kept him out against Prairie View A&M. The junior quarterback was hurt in Baylor’s season-opening loss to Auburn, his first game with the team after transferring from Florida. Coach Dave Aranda said Lagway took part in a Monday walkthrough and would be evaluated through his practice work.
The injury is not expected to sideline Lagway for a month or longer, although it is unclear whether he could play in an emergency against Louisiana Tech. On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Baylor hopes to have him available for next Saturday’s Big 12 opener against Colorado. Edward Griffin is listed as QB2 on the depth chart, followed by Quinn Murphy as QB3.
