The Cowboys’ 37-20 victory over Washington has highlighted their limited rushing production ahead of a game against Baltimore in Rio de Janeiro. Dallas totaled 66 yards on the ground and 266 through the air. Javonte Williams had 12 carries for 30 yards.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the offensive plan was to spread Washington’s defense and throw the ball, though he did not anticipate finishing with only 66 rushing yards. The Baltimore game is scheduled for Maracanã Stadium.
Questions on social media have focused on the field after Flamengo played there, but Schottenheimer said Dallas’ operations staff has been in contact with the league and he is not worried about the playing surface.
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said the win made him optimistic and said he would spend money to improve the roster, while also identifying the running game as an area needing work. Jones praised defensive tackles Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark for their strong starts. He called Williams one of the NFL’s top players and cited Clark’s consistency in the middle of the defense.
Jones also said Williams is not injured after appearing slow to get up following several plays against Washington.
