Florida State coach Mike Norvell said the Seminoles are preparing for Saturday’s road game at No. 10 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The team is 1-1 after its recent loss to SMU, a result Norvell called disappointing but said did not change his confidence in Florida State or what it can accomplish.
Norvell praised fired athletic director Michael Alford and his wife, Laura, and said preparations will continue with Bruce Warwick serving as interim athletic director. Norvell called Warwick an experienced professional and said he expects him to do well. Players were off Monday, and Norvell planned to discuss the leadership change with them Tuesday.
Freshman linebackers Izayia Williams and Daylen Green will miss the rest of the season. Veteran linebacker Blake Nichelson is expected back this year but will be out for an extended period. Norvell said the absences could open opportunities on defense and special teams.
He also praised quarterback Ashton Daniels’ work during the week, especially his practice approach and focus on controllable areas. Norvell described Alabama’s defense as fast and explosive, with a larger front than last season. Florida State must win individual matchups, maintain offensive balance and create big plays, while containing Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell outside the pocket.
