Nico Collins was absent from the portion of Houston’s Wednesday practice open to reporters, marking his third consecutive missed session. The Texans wide receiver suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain before the team’s Week 2 game against Cincinnati and did not play against the Bengals.
Dalton Schultz, Jadeveon Clowney, Trent Brown and Ed Ingram also were not observed during the media-access period. No additional information about those players was provided. Houston is 0-2 entering Week 3, and Collins’ status for the Colts game remains undetermined.
Collins’ absence could again increase the workload for Xavier Hutchinson, Kayshon Boutte and Jaylin Noel. The three combined for seven catches against Cincinnati, while no Houston wide receiver recorded more than three receptions or 40 receiving yards. Schultz had the team’s top receiving performance with 12 catches totaling 140 yards.
Nick Caley, Houston’s offensive coordinator, would need to prepare for another game without the team’s top wideout if Collins cannot play. SI.com reported that Collins might instead return in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.
