Texas offensive lineman Cole Hutson has been granted a temporary injunction allowing him to play for the Longhorns this season. The decision came from Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin’s 53rd District Court, according to a sports.yahoo.com report that credited Chip Brown of Horns247.
Hutson’s eligibility had been denied ahead of Texas’ Week 2 matchup with Ohio State on Sept. 7. Coach Steve Sarkisian said that the NCAA issue was separate from the court matter and remained under review. The order does not establish when Hutson will appear in a game.
It was issued near Texas’ SEC opener against Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, so his status for that contest was still uncertain. Sarkisian was scheduled to speak with local media on Thursday and could offer an update.
Texas has continued to get dependable play at both guard spots. Dylan Sikorski, a transfer from Oregon State, is starting at left guard, although fall-camp expectations had favored Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore for the job. During camp, quarterback Arch Manning said Hutson’s return to the team surprised him and that he was glad to have him back.
Guard Brandon Baker said Hutson had played well in camp and provided leadership and a positive presence in the locker room.
